BC Breweries are Showing Some Love to the Planet

BC breweries and distilleries are looking to marry their love of brewing and distilling with their passion to help support the planet.

Vancouver Island Brewing has teamed up with the Pacific Salmon Foundation to collaborate on what they’ve deemed the 2021 Pod Pack – a collaborative sampler pack designed to raise awareness of the health of B.C.’s Chinook salmon run which is vital to support the whales eating habits.

Proceeds from each Pod Pack will support the Pacific Salmon Foundation which funds community groups that actively restore salmon streams across B.C. and operate small conservation hatcheries. Sales will also support critical marine research and data management to better understand the decline of salmon population in the Salish Sea which is the primary hunting grounds for Southern Vancouver Island residents during the summer months.

Penticton’s first craft brewery, Tin Whistle Brewing, is doing their part by releasing their new Queen of Tart sour beer made with over 250 pounds of the prickly pear cactus fruit. They have chosen to partner with the Osoyoos Desert Centre which supports the conservation and restoration of Canada’s Pocket Desert.

Okanagan Spring Brewery faces the challenge of fires in the region each year. In order to assist, they’ve just launched a beer (now permanent to their roster) that has been deemed to help fight wildfires across BC, Terrace Mountain Session IPA.  Partial proceeds of the Terrace Mountain Session IPA will go to wildfire prevention, in partnership with FireSmart BC and relief through the Canadian Red Cross
