This Quebec Microbrewery Stands Out Nationally Thanks to Winning Six Medals

At the prestigious World Beer Awards 2023, an event held in the United Kingdom, The Archibald Microbrewery distinguished itself by taking home six honours representing Canada’s finest.

The six beers are Ci-boire, Joufflue, Neipa and Brasseur, Belle-mer, Bopère, and Matante. Beginning in August, Bopère and Matante, two of these six beers, took home the gold medal in their respective categories.

Beers who place first in their own country automatically go to the Grand Finals. Earlier this week, the winners of the world’s greatest beers were announced. Despite competing in the Lager and Golden Ale divisions, respectively, the Bopère and the Matante failed to take home a medal in this final competition.

However, the fact that their beers are regarded as the best in Canada is already a significant source of pride for the brewery.

“It’s a great joy for us with six medals, including two gold, one silver and three bronze. La Bopère is a new beer this year. It’s a great pride for the whole team and even more for the brewing team to be able to stand out and get medals like these, especially with the quantity of products that are now available across the craft brewing industry,” commented Étienne Dancosse, Marketing Director at Microbrasserie Archibald.

“This proves the seriousness of our production and the fine products that can be produced here,” added Sylvain Clep, head brewer.

Archibald, founded in Lac-Beauport in 2005, has established a good reputation for itself in Quebec.

“Today, Archibald is the largest microbrewery by volume in Quebec and among the largest in Canada as well, even if we only sell in Quebec,” continued Mr. Dancosse.

“We occupy a prominent place in the Quebec microbrewery market, with 25% of market share,” he added.

“It’s a growth that has accelerated in recent years. We still have good growth year after year, despite an industry that is shaken by the pandemic, inflation and the return of some consumers to older brands,” he said.

Mr. Dancosse adds that business is booming for the company, which sells its products in close to 6,000 locations across Quebec. Restaurant business is booming, and new initiatives are beginning to emerge.

The Archibald Microbrasserie comprises six restaurants and more than 800 staff.
